North West Transformation

Stage One of an amazing $1 billion transformation of Auckland's north west is underway.

It includes the development of:

  • a new town centre at Westgate – incorporating a town square and new library
  • a new village centre and employment park at Hobsonville
  • the creation of a community and Marine Industry Precinct at Hobsonville Point.

The transformation with ensure regional economic growth along with social, recreational, environmental and transport benefits.

Westgate - building for a community

  • 156 hectares
  • 10,000 new jobs
  • 4000 new residents.

Auckland Council and New Zealand Retail Property Group (NZRPG) are building the new regional town centre.

Council is partnering with NZRPG to create the new centre's civic heart including a new 3500 square metre library featuring a unique children's reading and storytelling 'cocoon' space, community rooms, a café and Citizens' Advice Bureau.

The large civic space will be a pedestrian friendly slow speed zone or shared space. It will also be a place for people to gather and relax with family and friends.

Hobsonville

The small shopping centre is being expanded to the other side of the road to include a new supermarket and retail shopping area. The expanded Hobsonville Village will allow for further business activities and a small amount of residential housing next to Hobsonville Domain.

An employment park will be developed between Brigham Creek Rd and Westpark Drive on Hobsonville Rd with an emphasis on quality buildings and open space environments and will create 4000 jobs.

An upgrade is planned for Hobsonville Rd and the project is designed to accommodate a quality transit network of buses, wider footpaths and cycleways.

Hobsonville Point

167 hectares of land, the former Hobsonville RNZAF military airbase.

Marine Industry Precinct

20 hectares to provide an environment for boat building / maintenance and marine industry businesses creating up to 2000 jobs.

The Landing

Part of harbour front land owned by the Crown and managed by Hobsonville Land Company (HLC) to be developed for boat launching and retrieval activities related to the marine precinct and for a public ferry terminal

Residential

3000 dwellings, open space, two schools and a small area of shops and offices. The redevelopment is being advanced by HLC.
