Ko e nei whetu, meaning "these bright stars", combines the practices of established and emerging artists and has been curated to intersect with and reflect on the themes of Matariki.
In the context of this exhibition, the phrase "Ko e nei whetu" is a dual allusion: firstly to the actual Matariki stars, and secondly to the unique vision of each artist in the exhibition.
The title has been left open ended, signifying possibility, which is exactly what is represented by both the appearance of the physical stars and the diversity of creative practices from a contemporary generation of artists with ties to this land.
