Construction of The Surf Club at Muriwai will start this winter, delivering a bold and exciting multifunctional facility for the local community by end of May 2012.
The new $4.2m facility will not only set a new standard for surf life saving club amenities in New Zealand, but will also become the proud home to many local sports, leisure and interest groups.
The new eco-friendly purpose-built facility will be set up to cater for a wide range of activities and needs. As well as providing facilities for local fishing clubs, martial arts groups, and other community and arts groups, it will also host corporate events, weddings and large community events.
The Surf Club’s development has been the result of a multi-agency approach to
research and funding over a number of years.
Auckland Council is contributing $1.5m of the $4.2m, with additional funding coming from former councils, lottery grants, gaming trusts, The Trusts Community Foundation, ASB Trust and local community fundraising activities.
