In some areas the council provides housing to low income older people. There are differences in eligibility, rents and types of units available across the region.

Own-your-own units

Auckland Council run a scheme known as the Own your own (OYO) units. One and two bedroom units are sold to the elderly at 80 per cent of the market value, with the exception of the village at Carrick Place, Mt Eden where the units are 50 per cent of the market value.
