1. Now that the Auckland Council is in place, what do I do with my household and business waste?

   All rubbish, recycling and cardboard and paper collections remain the same – there are no changes unless otherwise advised.

   Residents and businesses should continue to put their rubbish, recycling and paper and cardboard out for collection on the same day and at the same time as usual.

2. In my area we have different services from elsewhere. For example, we pay for rubbish bags but in central Auckland they have wheelie bins. Will things like that change?

   No, services will be uninterrupted and stay as they are until the new Auckland Council has an opportunity to review them. Once the council reviews them, if there are changes, residents will be told ahead of any change over.

3. Seeing as there are different services in different areas, can I choose to use a MGB (Mobile garbage bin) instead of the pre-paid bags in my area?

   No, each rubbish, recycling and paper and cardboard collection service is specific to the area in which you live. For example, if you live in Auckland you will remain on the same kerbside wheelie bin service for rubbish and recycling. If you live on the North Shore, you will continue to use the official pre-paid rubbish bags.

4. There are different pre-paid rubbish bag prices throughout the region. Can I buy an official council rubbish bag in Waitākere and put it out for collection on the North Shore?

   No, you cannot buy a pre-paid rubbish bag in Waitākere and place it out for collection on the North Shore. This is because each kerbside collection service is specific to the geographical area in which you live. Each pre-paid rubbish bag that features the Auckland Council logo will also have a sentence on it that states that it can only be used in a specific former council area. For example, an official pre-paid grey rubbish bag will state that ‘This pre-paid refuse bag must only be used in the former Waitākere City Council area’. An official pre-paid orange rubbish bag will state that ‘This pre-paid rubbish bag must only be used in the former North Shore City Council area’.

5. What if I have pre-paid rubbish bags that I bought before the Auckland Council. They don’t have the new Auckland Council logo on them. Can I still put them out for collection?

   Yes. If you have some official pre-paid rubbish bags that you purchased before the establishment of the Auckland Council you can still put these out for collection on your usual rubbish collection day. These will be collected.

6. What about other waste-related services such inorganic collections, public holiday collections and HazMobile collections. Do they stay the same too?

   Yes, they will remain the same and you will be notified in the same way as you have been previously. Inorganic collection information will be distributed through the same channels as before so if you received a leaflet advising you of what to do with your inorganic material, you will receive the same type of information under the new council. HazMobile collections will continue to be advertised in your local paper and the hazmobile website - www.hazmobile.govt.nz.
