Community programmes and partnerships

Our community environmental programmes support everyone who is striving to make a positive difference to the environment.

The Auckland region is special to us all in different ways. Communities have been working tirelessly for many years to ensure it remains special as the region continues to grow and develop. 

People are becoming more aware of the environmental challenges we face and are getting more involved in doing their bit.  Local neighbourhood initiatives, from community gardens to planting days and beach cleanups, are increasing. 

People are getting serious about reducing the impact of their lifestyles on the environment by making greater use of public transport, reducing excessive consumption, buying locally, growing their own vegetables and re-using and recycling. 

Businesses too are reviewing how they can be more sustainable and groups are exploring new ways of working together to achieve better results.

Our community environmental activities

Our programmes work with individuals, households, neighbourhoods, businesses, community groups and government agencies to bring about positive change that addresses key environmental and sustainability issues.  They support action by providing services, working with partner organisations and assisting local community initiatives.

Our services include:

• Funding for environment and heritage projects
• Action days and events to connect people with their local environment and community, including volunteer opportunities
• Advice, information, training and support for people, groups and businesses addressing sustainability and environmental issues on public and private land
• Linking organisations and brokering partnerships with others.

In addition to our community programmes, we also have:

• Sustainable neighbourhood programmes in Waitakere and North Shore.
