East Tamaki Business Precinct Plan
East Tamaki is one of a number of key business areas across the region that has the potential to support increased employment of workers, customers and goods.
Located in the southeast of Auckland, the precinct contributes 4.5 per cent to the region’s total employment.
It is a dynamic and highly successful production and export zone with concentrations of activity in:
- manufacturing
- wholesale
- administrative and support services
- professional, scientific and technical services.
With over 27,500 employees, East Tamaki has experienced 61 per cent growth between 2000 and 2010.
Growth within the precinct has been driven by factors such as Greenfield development location and access to strategic infrastructure such as the motorway, port and airport.
With increasing pressures from alternative land uses and the limited availability of land for future expansion, there is a need to plan how the precinct will evolve to ensure its ongoing regional and national competitiveness as a business location.
Auckland Council plays a key role in promoting and managing growth in Auckland, ensuring that our planning paves the way for business expansion and supports region-wide economic growth.
Business precinct plans provide the guiding framework to support business and employment growth within key business areas and aim to assist in the delivery of the economic objectives set within the Auckland Plan and Economic Development Strategy.
To help achieve the project vision for East Tamaki, Auckland Council will work with business and other stakeholders to develop the business precinct plan.

The initial period of consultation for the East Tamaki business precinct plan has now finished.
Over the next few months, council will review the feedback received and develop a draft business precinct plan for the area.
Local businesses, property owners and other key stakeholders will have an opportunity to provide comment on the draft plan towards April 2012.
Feedback received during this period will assist us to finalise the plan for East Tamaki.
