Remuneration Authority determinations

The Remuneration Authority issues a determination for the remuneration of elected members each year at 30 June.

Remuneration of elected members

Elected members are classified as self employed and are paid an annual salary.

There are different levels of remuneration depending on the specific roles and responsibilities of elected members.

Resource Management Act hearings

An elected member who acts as the chairperson of a resource consent hearing meeting is paid $116 per hour.

An elected member who acts as a member of a resource consent hearing meeting is paid $93 per hour.

If a hearing lasts less than one hour, the fee is apportioned accordingly.

Elected members' expense policy

Elected members may incur expenses while on council business, for which they can be reimbursed.

The Remuneration Authority sets the allowances and expenses which may be reimbursed.

Other entitlements are outlined in the The Elected Members' Expense Policy, which is approved by the Remuneration Authority.

Elected members' travel for Auckland Council business is booked and paid for by Auckland Council and is not reimbursed to elected members.
