About this goal

We measure this goal by surveying visitors to discover the impact the zoo has had on their appreciation of wildlife.

Importance of this goal

Auckland Zoo's vision is of 'a future where wildlife is valued and species are safe from extinction'.

How are we achieving this goal

Capital investment from Auckland Council means Auckland Zoo has a 10-year programme that will position it as one of the leading conservation zoos in the world.

As interest in environmental and conservation issues increases, Auckland Zoo is well placed to meet the needs of the growing Auckland population, including tourists.

Construction on the Zoo's largest project to date, the Wild Asia precinct, is underway. Wild Asia will celebrate and conserve species from South-East Asian rainforests. Auckland Zoo will digitally and physically immerse visitors in the experience, which serves as a reminder of why it is essential to protect orangutans, salamans, otters and tigers, among others, in their rainforest homes.
