About the Franklin Arts Centre

Franklin Arts Centre is a visual arts hub with two exhibition galleries, a retail shop and a workshop venue.

The centre presents arts projects and programmes that reflect the context of its location, and engage and enrich its local culture and communities.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm

Saturdays, 9.30am to 2.30pm

Closed on public holidays.

Admission

Entry is free.

Charges may apply to workshops and special exhibitions.

New Zealand Steel Gallery

The New Zealand Steel Gallery is the main gallery space and exhibits the work of national, international and locally known established and emerging artists. The gallery has an emphasis on:

  • activating local narratives through its programmes and
  • including artists with connections to the area.

Exhibitions in the gallery are typically scheduled for six weeks. A feature of the exhibition schedule is ongoing free (or affordable) programme events related to each exhibition.
