Licences and regulations

Updates to Auckland Council licences, regulations and noise complaints during COVID-19 Orange setting.

Licences

Alcohol licensing

Status: Applications accepted and inspections carried out

We are accepting, assessing and approving all applications for alcohol licences while at the COVID-19 Orange setting. You can submit your application online or at selected service centres.

We will carry out some physical inspections at sites with appropriate COVID-19 health and safety protocols in place. We will inspect other sites remotely.

Food licences

Status: Applications accepted and inspections carried out

We will carry out inspections of food premises, with the appropriate COVID-19 risk management practices in place. Remote checks will be carried out in parallel with site visits.

You can apply online or in some service centres for food business registrations, national programmes, and food control plans.

We will extend existing and new food-only outdoor licences at no cost until we reach the Green setting or 18 February 2022.

Hospitality venues, such as cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs, can open at Orange with no restrictions if they follow My Vaccine Pass requirements.

There are no limits on the number of people who can be at the venue. Public-facing workers (paid and non-paid) at food and drink businesses and services must wear a face covering.

If vaccination certificates are not used, businesses must only open for contactless pick-up, delivery or drive through. Customers are not allowed to dine in, refer to government guidance.

Businesses are encouraged to set up their contactless pick-up outside the front of their premises. No street trading licence will be required for using the area in front of the business for contactless pick-ups.

We are continuing to respond to requests for information and service. We will risk assess and investigate most requests.

Health and beauty licences

Status: Applications accepted and inspections carried out

Hairdressers, tattoo parlours, nail and beauty salons are open at the COVID-19 Orange setting with public health requirements and My Vaccine Pass in place.

We will carry out some physical inspections at sites with appropriate COVID-19 risk management practices in place. We will inspect other sites remotely.

Customer meetings, interviews and advice is via phone and online only.

Noise complaints

Status: Reduced service

Noise control staff are attending noise control complaints with COVID-19 risk management practices in place.

If you believe someone is not following the rules, you can report them to the COVID-19 Compliance Centre.
