Parks, recreation and community venues

Updates to Auckland Council parks, leisure centres and community venues during COVID-19 Orange setting.

Libraries

Status: Open

Our libraries are open. Our libraries website and social media channels will be updated with further changes if necessary.

A face mask must be worn inside our facilities. For more information on physical distancing and face masks please visit covid19.govt.nz

Contactless click and collect service and eCollections are available via our website.

In-person programmes and events will run at some libraries.

​Auckland Botanic Gardens

Status: Open

The visitor centre and Cafe Miko are open.

While in the visitor centre, please wear a face mask and maintain a physical distance from others.

Drinking fountains and outdoor bookable venues are open. Bookable outdoor venues will be managed in line with government guidelines. See the Auckland Botanic Gardens website for more details.

Playgrounds, park splash pads, skate parks, pump tracks, basketball courts and other park equipment

Regional parks

Status: Open

Parks and beaches are open.

Some parks don't allow dogs and others have strict on-leash rules. Check the rules before you set out.

Horse riding is permitted in some regional parks and beaches. You must hold a current horse riding pass.

Arataki Visitor Centre

Status: Open

Arataki Visitor Centre will be open from 9am to 5pm daily.

Bookable (picnic) sites in regional parks

Status: Open

Bookable picnic sites are open. Council booking size limits apply for each site.

If you wish to cancel or amend a booking you can do so online via your MyAuckland account. We have temporarily suspended the five-day prior refund and amendment rules which means you can now have a full booking refund or reschedule to another date (excluding bank transaction fees) until 11.59pm of the day prior to your arrival.

Wintergardens

Status: Open

Wintergardens courtyard and fernery are open. The temperate and tropical house remain closed while renovations and seismic strengthening works are completed on this site. See OurAuckland for updates on this project.

Sports fields and courses

Golf courses

Status: Open

Chamberlain Park Golf Course and toilets are open and accessible to all under the COVID-19 Protection Framework Orange setting.No showering will be permitted.

Sports fields

Status: Open

Organised sport can start as long as Orange setting and Sport NZ guidelines are following under the COVID Protection Framework.

Leisure centres and swimming pools

Status: Open

Leisure centre facilities are open,  including gyms, indoor recreation programmes, pools, splash pads, spa, sauna and steam rooms.

Face masks must still be worn by everyone aged 12 and over at public facilities, except around swimming pools or while exercising.

Outdoor fitness classes

Status: Available with restrictions

Holiday parks and Waiheke Backpackers Hostel

Status: Open

Holiday parks (Martins Bay, Ōrewa, and Whangateau) and Waiheke Backpackers Hostel are open with COVID-19 Protection Framework measures and protocols in place.

Regional parks accommodation

Status: Open

All of Auckland Council's regional parks campgrounds, baches, tiny home and SCC campgrounds are open. Please check the bookings website.

If you’re staying in a bach or the tiny home we have resumed our regular cleaning schedule and provided additional cleaning products. You can also bring your own hygiene provisions to wipe down shared facilities and sanitiser for general use.

If you’re camping, select a location that will maintain a good distance between other campers. Bring your own hygiene provisions to wipe down shared facilities and sanitiser for general use. Toilets will have soap or sanitiser.

While using regional parks lodge accommodation, we encourage the wearing of face masks, physical distancing and other measures to remain safe. This is due to the self-service nature of the accommodation and the number of people in the same space.

Venues for hire

Status: Open

Community centres and halls, art centres, galleries, theatres and performing arts spaces are open in line with government guidelines.
