At Alert Level 3: Step 1 you can travel throughout Auckland for exercise and recreation outdoors. Our early childhood centres are open for enrolled children only.

Customer-facing facilities like leisure centres, community venues, customer service centres and libraries will remain closed until further notice. Essential services will continue.

Wear a face covering, use the NZ COVID Tracer app, maintain a 2m physical distance, wash your hands, and stay home if you are sick.

​COVID-19 Alert Level 2 – Animal shelter information

Animals in care at council shelters will continue to be looked after.

Animal shelters are open to the public but with strict entry conditions and required health and safety measures in place. We will be limiting entry numbers to ensure physical distancing rules can be met. If possible, please call the shelter ahead of visiting.

Viewing of dogs for adoption is by appointment only.

If your dog goes missing please check the Auckland Council impounded animals Facebook page or phone the council on 09 301 0101.

Viewing times for adoptions

  • Monday to Friday: 10.30am-3pm by appointment only.
  • Weekends and public holidays: 11am-3pm.
  • Christmas Day: closed.

Collect impounded dogs

  • Monday to Friday: 8.30am-4pm.
  • Weekends and public holidays: 11am-3pm.
  • Christmas Day: closed.

Micro-chip your dog

The Silverdale Animal Shelter can microchip your dog. Contact the shelter for more information and to book an appointment.
