Giving everyone the opportunity to vote
The local elections that are taking place on 12 October 2019 are a chance for Aucklanders to have their say on the mayor, councillors and local board members who will represent Tāmaki Makaurau for the next three years.
On Friday 4 October, we'll be giving all Auckland Council staff 30 minutes to go and vote, and we want other organisations and companies around Auckland to do the same.
Register for Vote Friday and show your company's support of democracy and commitment to driving voter participation.
Why we are doing this
In the 2016 local elections, only 38.5 per cent of Aucklanders voted. Many non-voters filled out their voting papers, but never got around to posting them.
By giving people a dedicated 30 minutes to focus on the election on Friday 4 October, we hope to get more of those filled-in voting papers into company post systems and mobile ballot boxes.
