The Tāmaki Makaurau Mana Whenua Forum is a governance-level independent forum which operates under its own terms of reference.
The forum partners with the Crown and Auckland Council on national and region-shaping matters that require a collective voice.
The forum's membership includes 19 council-recognised mana whenua Hapū and iwi with ancestral relationships to certain areas in Tāmaki Makaurau where they exercise customary authority. iwi A number of hapū (section of a tribe) related through a common ancestor./ hapῡ and can make decisions on matters within its authority.
The Co-Chairs of the forum are Karen Wilson (Te Ākitai Waiohua) and Ngarimu Blair (Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei).
