Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Forum

The Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Forum is a joint committee of Auckland Council and the Department of Conservation established under the Local Government Act 2002.

This advisory forum brings together tangata whenua The indigenous people of the land., the community, Auckland Council and the Department of Conservation to support the protection and enhancement of the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area in accordance with the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Act 2008. The forum was established in November 2025 after the signing of the Deed of Acknowledgement with Te Kawerau ā Maki under the Act.

What the forum does

The Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Forum makes recommendations and helps coordinate discussions and activities across key partners. It also provides a place to discuss issues affecting the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area.

To guide this work, the forum will develop a strategic plan for the heritage area, supported by work programmes and ongoing monitoring of progress and outcomes.
