The Henderson-Massey Local Board area is located between the foothills of the Waitākere Ranges in the west and the Waitematā Harbour in the east.
Today the local board area has two metropolitan centres at Henderson and Westgate and includes the suburbs of West Harbour, Massey, Ranui, Glendene, Lincoln, Henderson South, Sunnyvale, Te Atatu Peninsula and Te Atatu South.
The Oratia and Opanuku streams and their tributaries wind their way from the ranges to the sea through this area. The Motu Manawa Marine Reserve at Te Atatu is home to ecologically important saltmarshes and the endangered railbird.
Henderson town centre has a local government presence at the Waitakere Central complex, key government services and the Unitec campus.
The town centre has an integrated bus and train station, with enhanced access to the heart of the civic, retail and business district.
The area is home to several cultural and recreational facilities, including the Corban Estate Arts Centre, Auckland Film Studios, Whoa Studios, West Wave Aquatic Centre, The Trusts Arena, the Netball Waitakere complex and Massey Leisure Centre.
The Henderson town centre is also the base of Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust's activities.
