The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board area stretches from Waiwera in the north to Campbells Bay in the south across the Whangaparāoa Peninsula out to Tiritiri Matangi Island. Our area is known for its spectacular beaches, parks and reserves. Our main town centres are Ōrewa, Silverdale, Whangaparāoa, Browns Bay and Mairangi Bay.
The character of our town centres and coastal villages is unique and makes them attractive places to shop and meet.

Hibiscus and Bays' many beautiful and safe beaches include Shakespear Regional Park, which is New Zealand's most visited accessible open sanctuary, integrating conservation, recreation and farming.
Shakespear's pest- free habitat provides a safe home for threatened native wildlife and has recently seen the spotted kiwi and north island robin released in the park - both endangered species.
Long Bay Regional Park has over a million visitors a year. The Long Bay-Okura Marine Reserve protects a variety of coastal habitats including sandy beaches, rocky reefs, estuarine mudflats and mangroves.
Gulf Harbour Marina is a popular marina, on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula. It is only a short ferry ride to the nationally recognised ecological sanctuary Tiritiri Matangi Island.
The island represents an amazing opportunity to see some unique native treasures. Tiritiri Matangi is rich in Māori and European history with one of the most successful community-lead conservation projects in the world.
Ōrewa Beach is a popular destination for swimming, kite surfing and riding around Te Ara Tahuna and stopping to visit the Estuary Arts Centre –and the new Western Skatepark is a fantastic new place for young and old.
