Research services
You can search our archives database online.
We also offer a research service if you need help finding information in our archives.
- The first 30 minutes of research is free.
- We charge $25 for every additional 30 minutes.
- You need to prepay and we will confirm the cost before starting.
If you are not able to visit us in person, our staff can suggest other ways to get the information you need. You can also contact the Professional Historians' Association of New Zealand / Aotearoa (PHANZA) for a list of historians who offer research services in a range of specialist areas.
Photocopying and printing charges are not included in the research fee.
Imaging and copying services
You can request copies of maps, plans and photographs for a fee depending on the document's age and condition.
We recommend this for high resolution or publication-quality images.

All archival records are provided for research and private study purposes (such as school projects or learning more about family history). Any print or electronic reproduction may infringe copyright law. It is the responsibility of the user to obtain clearance from the copyright holder.
