Jill:Kia Ora, I’m Jill. I’ve just been granted a resource consent for my project. Time to get started.

Mark: Kia Ora Jill, I’m Mark, your assigned monitoring officer, and main point of contact to assist with your resource consent compliance.

Mark: Some, like the pre-start meeting and the construction management plan, are required to be done before you start work, others will be required to be submitted during construction and once the project has been completed.

Jill: Thanks Mark. What about the rest of the conditions?

Mark: Ultimately, as the consent holder, it’s your responsibility to make sure that the works comply with the resource consent. This includes any contractors you have employed.

Jill: How will council make sure that I comply with my consent?
Mark: We are warranted under the Resource Management Act and have authority to enter the site to monitor compliance. I will inspect the site on a routine basis. If we see any non-compliance, we will bring it up with you or your site manager.

Mark: Just to let you know, our time is charged hourly. This cost will vary depending on the complexity of the consent and time taken, as well as the level of compliance.

Mark: You might have other consents as well, such as abuilding consent or engineering approval. It’s a good idea to check-in with those teams as well.

Mark: Council has a number of enforcement tools that may be used depending on the severity of the non-compliance, including fines.
