A coastal consent, or permit, may be required for a wide range of activities, including:
- to reclaim part of the foreshore or seabed
- to construct a structure in, on, under, or over any foreshore or seabed, e.g. to build a jetty, seawall or marina
- to disturb the foreshore or seabed, e.g. by excavation or dredging
- to deposit substances in, on, under, or over any foreshore or seabed
- to plant exotic or introduced plants in, on, under, or over the foreshore or seabed
- to occupy any part of the common marine and coastal area
- to remove sand, shingle, shell or other natural material
- to carry out activities in, on, under or over any coastal marine area for which a resource consent is required such as removing mangroves.
