All dogs in Auckland must be registered annually. There is a fine if you do not register your dog – see Schedule 1 of the Dog Control Act 1996

Other rules
- You must register your dog before it turns three months old.
- Register your dog at the address where it spends most of its time.
- You must microchip your dog within two months of registering it.
- If you are under 16 years old, you must register the dog under your parent's or guardian's name.
- Dogs must wear a registration tag at all times. If you lose the tag, you can ask for a replacement.
