Our role
We manage around 180 of closed landfills and some contaminated sites Sites that have been used for the disposal of poisonous or polluting materials..
Our obligations are to:
- protect people and the environment from any harm caused by closed landfills and contaminated land
- manage closed landfills and contaminated land responsibly and effectively
- follow all consent conditions when managing these sites
- restore closed landfills so they can become safe parks or wildlife areas
- look after these sites by investigating problems, assessing risks, cleaning them up and monitoring them over time.
Get approval to build on or use a Council managed closed landfill
You need our approval to build on or undertake certain activities on an Auckland Council managed closed landfills.
