Learn how pest control maintains forest biodiversity.
Biological Impacts of Pest Control (Sci1.12)
Experiences
Students spend the day in the forest and coastal environment investigating the impact pest control has on plants and animals in the native forest.
Students will learn about:
- how our native biodiversity helps maintain a healthy forest ecosystem
- the impact of introduced mammal pests
- methods of pest control.
Students then collect data on the health of the Long Bay forest ecosystem using tracking tunnels, seedling quadrats A square or rectangular frame used in ecology, geography and biology to sample, study and observe organisms in the area of the frame. and bird counts. This helps students compare and analyse data back in the classroom.
