Wai Care water quality monitoring
About Wai Care
Wai Care is Auckland’s community-based waterway monitoring and restoration programme.
It helps community groups, landowners and volunteers look after and improve the health of local streams. It is also available to primary, intermediate and secondary school students.
We provide free training, equipment and guidance so participants can:
- monitor water quality
- assess stream habitats
- learn how to promote and help native plant restoration through:
- planting along the edges of rivers, streams and wetlands
- waterway clean-ups
- pest control.
Wai Care helps communities to:
- understand their catchments (water bodies)
- improve freshwater ecosystems
- contribute to healthier waterways across the region.
