Auckland Council can contribute funding towards the cost of stormwater projects for developments.
How to apply for funding
To apply for funding, complete the Applications for Service and General Enquiries form.
You should apply before design or construction, as funding is not guaranteed.
Projects under $100,000
A Minor Works Agreement applies mainly to funding requests under $100,000. Requests are assessed based on the length of stormwater pipes built outside your development site, including manholes.
Check if your project is eligible
To apply for funding, your works must:
- go beyond what is needed for your development
- allow extra capacity for future growth or connections
- use stormwater pipes at least 225mm wide inside.
Qualifying works are eligible for a maximum funding allowance of up to:
- $25,000 for the first 75 metres of pipe
- $7500 for every additional 25-metre section.
After the maximum funding allowance has been calculated, we may increase funding by 150 per cent for any pipes that are 300mm or larger and located under a public road.
Payment claim
If we agree to fund your project, you can make a payment claim up to the maximum funding allowance after the works are finished.
Projects over $100,000
If your funding request is over $100,000, we will need an approved business case before we make a funding decision.
All funding decisions are made on a commercial basis. This means we consider the costs and benefits of the project before funding is approved.
Things to know before you apply
Funding depends on how much budget is available and the council's priorities.
You should apply for funding before getting resource consents or engineering approvals, as funding is not guaranteed.
Any work completed without a funding agreement is at your own risk, as we do not fund work already completed.
We may start a waitlist if demand is high.
