This guide pulls together a list of the licences and other things you need to start a food truck or coffee cart.
Get your food registration done first.
Most coffee carts operate under a National Programme, while trucks preparing high-risk food (for example, meat and dairy) need a Food Control Plan.
You also need to register your business with the New Zealand Companies Office.
Think about where you plan to trade and meet with us before you apply for a mobile trading licence.
If you plan to sell in a park from your food truck you need to request approval. Visit Trade from public land for more information.
All food businesses must be checked by a recognised verifier (either us or an independent agency) within six weeks of opening. Visit Apply for verification for your food business to learn more.
You also need to make sure the kitchen layout follows food safety regulations.
