Your business site must be well constructed in accordance with the bylaws and with any applicable provisions of the Building Act 2004, the Resource Management Act 1991, the New Zealand Building Code and Building Regulations.

The business site must be constructed, designed and arranged to be fit and suitable for its intended purposes.

• Maintain the business site and all fittings, fixtures and appliances in good repair and a clean and tidy condition.
• Do not accumulate rubbish or other materials that may harbour vermin or insects or that may be offensive or a nuisance.
• Carry out any structural alterations, repairs, renovations, plumbing, or drainage work that may be required, without unnecessary delay.

• You must be able to easily clean the walls, ceilings, fixtures and fittings in service areas and maintain them in good repair.
• The walls must be constructed of impervious material if they are likely to get wet/moistened or fouled.

• You must be able to easily clean all floors, walls, ceilings and other surfaces in and around showers, pools, steam rooms, and other areas liable to get moist or wet, including any room containing a toilet, bidet or urinal.
• The surfaces must be smooth, impervious and easy to clean.
• Floors must be adequately graded and drained to the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code.    
• You must clean all floors and walls that become wet with a suitable disinfectant, at least once in every 24 hours.

All business sites must have potable running water.

All parts of the business site must be adequately ventilated to the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code.

• All parts of the business site must have a lighting system capable of providing adequate illumination for cleaning and inspection.
• Lighting of not less than 300 lux, at a distance 900mm above the floor, must be provided at all working surfaces adjacent to every place where customers are served and where instruments and tools are cleaned and sterilised.

• If you are providing services that pierce the skin, you must have a separate area or room for cleaning and sterilising of equipment. This area must have good lighting, ventilation and be easily cleaned.
• Keep ultrasonic cleaners separate to sterilisation facilities and have a designated contamination area.

• If you are providing services that pierce the skin, you must have a suitable sink or sinks for the cleaning of skin piercing equipment in addition to a wash-hand basin and cleaner’s sink.
• We may waive the requirement for a cleaner’s sink or skin piercing equipment sink as specified above if we think it is unnecessary because of the nature of the service you provide.

• Any toilet and wash-hand basin must be easily accessible, hygienic, clean and tidy.
• Wash-hand basins must have piped supply of hot and cold water, or tempered running water at a temperature of not less than 38 degrees Celsius.
• You must provide soap and adequate hand drying facilities near toilets, bidets or urinals, that meet the requirements of standard G1 of the New Zealand Building Code.
• You must regularly check and clean all toilets and changing rooms throughout operating times.

You must provide:

• a wash-hand basin with a constant supply of hot and cold water, or tempered running water at a temperature of not less than 38 degrees Celsius
• soap
• single-use disposable paper towels or other approved hand-drying equipment
  

in a readily accessible position where any operator carries out any specified service.

You must ensure that the wash-hand basin cannot become directly contaminated by the splashing of contaminants from the cleaner’s sink.

• You must provide a cleaner’s sink, equipped with a constant supply of hot and cold running water, for cleaning of the floors, walls and similar fixed parts of the business site.
• Use the cleaner’s sink exclusively for this purpose.

Cover all mattresses, squabs and cushions used on any chair, bed, or table with permanent impervious covers, that you can easily clean.

Provide members of staff with a separate room or suitable facilities to store clothing and personal effects.
