The rules for election signs are set out in the Auckland Transport and Auckland Council Signs Bylaw 2022.

Election signs can be placed in four types of locations:

• Private land: Signs placed on private property.
• Public road reserve: Signs on approved public land next to roads, such as road reserves.
• Public land: Signs on approved public land, such as local parks.
• Vehicle or trailer signs: Signs displayed on a vehicle or trailer.

The rules for displaying election signs at these locations are set out in clause 17 of the Signs Bylaw 2022.
