​You can display two types of wall-mounted signs on walls at a premises in a metropolitan zone:

• horizontal wall-mounted signs (signs attached to a wall at a 90-degree angle)
• flat wall-mounted signs (signs attached flat against, or painted on, a wall).

All wall-mounted signs on a premises in this zone must:

• not cover any window
• only advertise the business, services, products, activities or events available at the premises
• comply with special and general rules about illumination, animation and vehicle and pedestrian safety (see clauses 20-29 of the Signs Bylaw 2022).

You can display horizontal wall-mounted signs on walls at a premises in these zones with some restrictions:

• You can display one horizontal wall-mounted sign for every 5m of visible wall length.
• Signs can project or stick out from a wall by a maximum of 1m.
• Each side of your sign can have a maximum surface area of 2.2 square metres.
• All horizontal wall-mounted signs at a similar height on any wall at the same premises must be separated by at least 5m.
• You cannot place your sign higher than 8m above ground level.
• You cannot place your sign lower than 3m above ground level.

You can display flat wall-mounted signs on walls at a premises in these zones with some restrictions:

• You can display one flat wall-mounted sign per business for every 5m of visible wall length.
• Signs cannot extend beyond, or stick out from, the outline of the wall.
• Signs cannot be combined with other flat wall-mounted signs to create a larger sign.
• Signs cannot project, or stick out, more than 30mm from a wall if next to a public footpath.
• Flat wall-mounted signs on the ground floor of a premises cannot be higher than 3m from the ground.
• Each sign can use a maximum wall area of six square metres.

The total area of wall covered by flat wall-mounted signs must not exceed:

• 25 per cent if the wall is facing or is on a front boundary
• 50 per cent if the wall is facing or is on any other boundary.
