About Nicholson Park

Nicholson Park – View of the Mt Eden tennis courts and the path leading to Poronui Street.

Named after the first Mayor of Mount Eden, Oliver Nicholson, this park is one of five public recreation reserves in Mt Eden. It caters for organised sports and is split into two sections by Poronui Street.

A good network of paths through the park provides a north to south connection from Epsom Avenue to Disraeli Street. The main playground and accessible toilets are at the Poronui Street entrance.

The Mount Eden Tennis Club and Mount Eden Bowling Club are both at the northern end of the park.

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. Visit Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

Playgrounds at Nicholson Park

Nicholson Park - Playground with a merry-go-round, set of two swings, and play module with climbing equipment and slides.

This playground features a play tower with dual slides, rope climbing wall, imaginative play area and swing bars. There is also a stand-alone swing set and spinning wheel.

Bus stop

Bus stops are located on Mt Eden Road, a short distance from the park.

Community buildings

There are several community buildings on the park. These are currently leased by the Spinners and Weavers and the Textile Arts Centre. Visit the Handweavers Guild website for information about what they do.

Parking

Parking is available on Poronui Street, and surrounding streets, on a first-come-first-served basis.

Disabled access

This park is well connected with mostly accessible footpaths. However, some are steep in places and some have uneven surfaces.

Pedestrian access

Tennis club

The Mount Eden Tennis Club is at the upper (Northern) section of the park. Public tennis courts are available when they are not being used by Auckland Tennis. Email Auckland Tennis at bookings@tennisauckland.co.nz for booking information.

Community garden

The Mount Eden Community Garden is near the bowling club. Gardeners tend to it on Sundays between 2pm and 4pm. New local gardeners are welcome!

Shooting club

The lower (Southern) section of the park is home to the Parafed Auckland Shooting club. Email Parafed Auckland at office@parafedauckland.co.nz for information.

Picnic area

A picnic table and seating are located close to the Disraeli Street entrance to the park.

Limited mobility toilets

Unisex toilet block with a wheelchair friendly path can be accessed from the Poronui Street entrance. Open 7am to 9pm daily.

Bowling club

The Mt Eden Bowling Club is at the upper (Northern) section of the park. Visit the Mt Eden Bowls website for information about how to get involved.
