We are closing areas of the park to allow for set up, the event and pack down.

Areas that will be closed:

All camping areas
Northwest of Deerys Road, from the entrance at the intersection with Orere-Matingarahi Road. Deerys road will remain open.

You can access the tracks and beach section of the lagoon southeast of Deerys Road during the festival. Park at the end of Deerys Road.

About Tāpapakanga Regional Park

Tāpapakanga Regional Park - The Ashby Homestead facing the Coromandel Peninsula.

An attractive coastal farm park, Tāpapakanga has a rich Māori and European history and offers an accessible, pōhutukawa edged beach on the western shores of the Firth of Thames.

The Tāpapakanga Stream winds its way through the park.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs, other animals and pets are prohibited at all Auckland Council regional parks' bookable sites and accommodation. The exception is registered aid dogs. You will need to advise our staff at time of booking if you have a registered aid dog for an exemption.
Dogs are allowed in regional parks only as stated in the dog walking section. All other animals are prohibited at all times, unless you have a permit issued by Auckland Council.

Alcohol

Visible and excessive consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
We may ask you and your group to leave the park and terminate your permit.

Smokefree regional parks

Our regional parks are smoke-free.
Please observe this while staying on or using our regional parks.

Waste

All our regional parks are rubbish free. Take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light a fire outside in all public areas in the Auckland region.

Vehicle access

An automatic gate is located at the park entrance. No access after closing hours. It will open at any time for vehicles exiting the park.

Barbecues

Two gas barbecues are located on the foreshore near the beach car park.

Mountain Bike Track

60 minutes, 6.9 km
Tramping tracks. Not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Check if Mountain Bike Track is open.

Farm Walk

120 minutes, 5.9 km
Not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Check if Farm Walk is open.

Tapapakanga Coastal Walk

120 minutes, 7.4 km
Not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Check if Tapapakanga Coastal Walk is open.

Historic Loop Track

30 minutes, 1.4 km
Not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Check if Historic Loop Track is open.

Activities at Tāpapakanga Regional Park

Fishing

Fishing can be dangerous and waves are unpredictable. Always wear a lifejacket.

Weddings

You may need a permit to hold a wedding or civil union ceremony at this regional park. See Apply for a permit to have an event or wedding in a regional park for more information, or call 09 301 0101 and ask to speak to a Senior Park Ranger.

Picnics

There are designated picnic sites behind the beach. Groups of 15 or more should book.

Farm animals viewing

Tapapakanga is a coastal farm park with sheep and cows.

Drones

Visite Flying drones or unmanned aerial vehicles for current rules and guidelines for flying in our parks.

Swimming

Tapapakanga has a swimming beach suitable for families.

Bird watching

Birds you can expect to see include Whiteface heron, Oystercatchers, Pied Shag, Black Shag, Tūī, Kererū, Fantail and Kingfisher.
