Karaka Bay was the site of one of the signings of the Treaty of Waitangi. It is a local reserve with beach access via a steep walkway through mature trees. Once at the beach, enjoy the beauty of an area well hidden from the hustle and bustle of a busy city. Be prepared for a bit of a hike both downhill and back up again.
To check for live information on water quality and safe swimming conditions at this beach, see the Safeswim website.
