Starts at 86 Bleakhouse Road, Bucklands Beach
This short, scenic bushwalk in Eastern Beach will get you away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Start the path at either the Bleakhouse Road or Murvale Drive entrance. The path weaves through a mix of native and exotic trees in Murvale Reserve. There are open reserve areas including off-leash areas for dogs.
The track is mostly gravel and steps, some carrying will be required if you bring a pram. There are seats along the way to pause and enjoy the quiet surroundings.
Admire the expansive views out to the Waitematā Harbour and Hauraki Gulf. From the lookout you can see glimpses to Rangitoto Island and the Sky Tower on a clear day.
Murvale Reserve has rich Māori and European history, dating back hundreds of years. An infestation of Dutch Elm disease in 2002 resulted in a significant loss of tree cover in the reserve, which is now being addressed with replanting of mainly native species in the gully and stream areas.
