Starts at 41-45 Te Toki Road, Ostend
Te Toki Reserve is a large and ecologically significant green space between Palm Beach and Ostend. It has an unbroken succession from coastal bush, through saltwater wetland and mangroves to the Putiki Bay estuary, set around a large open meadow with lovely views.
On summer days, it is a great kite flying spot. Very popular with dog walkers. The open areas are off-leash, the bush parts are on-leash only. The tracks are easy contour trails, but they can get muddy in winter, so good shoes are a must.
Park at the Wilma Road (top) entrance to the reserve. There are two walking loops through the reserve, an outer ring through the bush, and an inner ring through the meadows. To follow the marked route, first keep left, and head into the forest. Follow the track right around the reserve, past a beautiful wetland sequence. When you hit the meadow again, near the top of the reserve, use any of the grass paths to roam around at will.
A hidden gem close to Ostend, all off-road, and an off leash dog walking area in the grassed area.
