Tainui campground at Waharau Regional Park
Located on the eastern side of the rugged Hūnua Ranges, this vehicle-based campground extends from the range to the coast.
Enjoy farmland, river banks and forest areas for camping, picnics, walking and mountain biking.
There are some BBQs at this campground.
This campground is part of the Te Ara Moana kayak trail. If you are doing the trail over winter and want to use the campground while it is closed, phone us on 09 301 0101 to arrange.

Directions and access
Main park gates are open from 6am to 9pm during daylight savings hours and 6am to 7pm during non-daylight saving hours.
Head inland from East Coast Road to the entrance of park. Before going uphill, follow the road to right into the campground.
You will need a combination code to open the locked access gate - we will send you the combination code with your booking confirmation.

Booking information
Bookings can only be made six months in advance for campgrounds. Availability refreshes at midnight daily.
From 17 December to 31 January: group bookings are limited to a maximum of 10 people.
From 1 February to 16 December: group bookings are limited to a maximum of 30 people.
Bookings over the summer months
Waharau Regional Park holds cultural importance as a Tainui tribe summer camp.
From December to Waitangi Day, campground management shifts to Waahi Pa Trust. It is open to all visitors during this period if there is availability.
You must book through the on-site camp host. Call 09 301 0101 for more information.
Amenities
Six power points available for CSC vehicles on a first in first served basis. You will need to bring your own cables.
Flush toilets and hot water showers on site.
Rules
Dogs, other animals and pets are prohibited at all times.
Your campsite must be clean and tidy during your stay, and when you leave.
No bins or rubbish disposal facilities. Take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.
Fires prohibited at all times.
