Te Whakamahinga o te Waka me te Ture ā-Rohe mō te Whakatū Waka 2025 Vehicle Use and Parking Bylaw 2025

This bylaw includes rules about the use and parking of vehicles in Auckland, including on council-controlled land and the Auckland transport system.

The bylaw covers vehicle use and parking in Auckland, including:

• parks and reserves
• beaches
• off-street parking facilities (like at libraries and community centres)
• council-owned car parking buildings
• berms and grass verges (where there are 'no parking' signs displayed) 
• land controlled or managed by Auckland Transport.

This bylaw:

• regulates vehicle use and parking on parks and beaches
• regulates cycle paths, shared paths and shared zones Areas where people share the same space to walk, cycle and drive.
• regulates vehicle use and parking during special events and filming
• reserves parking places for the exclusive use of disabled people
• sets out specific road features like:
  • one-way travel directions
  • turning restrictions
  • special vehicle lanes
  • limitations for things like 'cruising Repeatedly driving up and down the same section of road to show off the power or sound of an engine, or in a group (not for trade purposes) that slows down other traffic. '
  • restrictions for lightweight vehicles Lightweight vehicles have a maximum weight of less than 3.5 tonnes. They include passenger and commercial vehicles like cars, vans, utility vehicles (utes), SUVs and 4-wheel-drives.
• restricts vehicle use or prohibits certain types of traffic from certain roads
• limits or bans parking for all vehicles, or specific types of vehicles, on certain roads
• prohibits engine braking on specific roads
• restricts vehicles from unformed legal roads A legal road that is not made from gravel, metal, seal or permanent surface by Auckland Transport and is mostly not made for public use.
• sets requirements for the use of:
  • parking places
  • transport stations
  • parking zones
  • busways and busway stations.

Under this bylaw, you must have a permit for:

• mobility parking
• resident parking
• filming parking Reserved parking for vehicles used to carry essential film production equipment.
• driving on a beach.
