About the Harbourview-Orangihina Masterplan
The Harbourview-Orangihina Park Masterplan sets out:
- the historical, cultural, environmental and recreational values of the park
- the consultation process to create the masterplan
- key design principles to guide development of the park
- a spatial plan showing how the park can be improved over time.
What the Harbourview-Orangihina Masterplan will do
Harbourview-Orangihina Park Masterplan will guide long-term improvements to the park, including:
- protecting and enhancing the park's environment
- improvements to support recreational use
- acknowledging the park’s cultural heritage and past.
Planned improvements
We want to:
- enhance the ecological values of the park, including the significant bird habitat, planting and managing pests.
- provide more walking and cycling tracks that access the wetland
- create opportunities for mana whenua to express whakapapa Genealogy that links Māori to their ancestors., such as the story of Rangihina
- encourage nature-themed play that incorporates artistic, sculptural or symbolic elements
- improve the park as a recreation and event destination
- provide park furniture made of natural and local materials
- develop hides A shelter or small building for watching birds from. for bird watching.
