This plan sets out how Auckland Council will deliver stormwater services for the region.
This plan works together with the council’s Long-term Plan 2024-2034 (10-year budget). It gives more detail about how the council will provide the stormwater services included in the long-term plan.
We prepared this plan to meet the requirements of the government's Local Water Done Well reform. This reform requires all councils to explain how they will deliver sustainable water services.
Auckland Council’s Governing Body decided on 2 May 2024 that the council would keep managing Auckland’s stormwater services. The delivery plan for how council will do that was approved on 29 July 2025.
The plan also had to be approved by the central government. The government gave its approval on 3 November 2025.

In February 2026, the Commerce Commission decided that councils and water organisations (like Watercare) must publicly share information about their drinking water and wastewater services.

Auckland Council only provides a minor aspect of the region's water and wastewater services. This includes the small-scale, standalone drinking and wastewater services found in council parks and community facilities.
