Designations included in the PAUP were publicly notified and open to public submissions between 30 September 2013 and 28 February 2014.

The panel considered these submissions at public hearings on:

• 30 November 2015
• 1 December 2015
• 2 May 2016.

The panel's recommendations will include which designations should:

• stay in the PAUP and any suggested amendments
• be discontinued.

The panel delivered its recommendations on designations to the council on 18 May 2016, except for:

• Auckland International Airport
• KiwiRail designations heard on 2 May 2016 and
• NZ Transport Agency designation 6727 (Newmarket Viaduct) heard on 2 May 2016.

The panel delivered recommendations on these three designations and its recommendations on all other aspects of the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan (PAUP) on 22 July 2016.
