Te mahi whakapaipai i te manga taupoki o te Huarahi o Paerata Paerata Road culvert upgrade

We are replacing the stormwater culvert A stormwater pipe not connected to the main stormwater system. These are normally used under roads or driveways. on the southern end of Paerata Road with a 12-metre-long bridge across Whangapouri Creek.

We are building the bridge in two halves to keep traffic flowing in both directions.

Building the bridge in this way will take longer but will provide continued access for all road users.

This project is part of wider stormwater upgrades in the area to:

• reduce flooding
• support future growth.

The new bridge will help to future-proof the stormwater network by reducing the:

• frequency of flooding upstream
• risk of the creek overflowing.

We will also:

• complete works to protect the creek banks from erosion
• secure downstream slopes.

• We will use an approved traffic management plan during the works to protect the health and safety of road users and pedestrians.
• We expect Paerata Road to stay open but the works will affect traffic flow.
• We will remove traffic islands and median strips. The dividing area between opposing lanes of traffic.
• We will reduce the width of traffic lanes but keep both lanes open.
• Access to residential and business properties will stay open.
• Most footpaths will stay open. We will clearly signpost any closures and diversions.
• We will monitor noise and vibrations from heavy vehicles and machinery to make sure they stay within permitted levels.
• We will schedule heavy vehicle movements outside school drop-off and pick-up times when possible.

We began this project in April 2024 and expected to finish it in spring 2025. The work was delayed when we found unexpected utility services that we needed to relocate.

We now expect to finish works in February 2026.

Works will mostly take place Monday to Saturday between 7.30am and 6.30pm.
