We are building Te Whau Pathway to connect the Waitematā and Manukau harbours. This includes a boardwalk and concrete path along the Whau River.

The project was paused in December 2022 while additional funding options were investigated.
The project received an additional $14 million of grant funding from the government and $4.8 million from Auckland Council. We are using these funds to complete the build between State Highway 16 (Northwestern Cycleway) and Roberts Field in Te Atatū South.
HEB Construction (HEB) is our building contractor.
HEB is currently completing two sections of the boardwalk:
The first section of boardwalk will open on Friday 20 March 2026.
We have received funding for the Rizal Crossing section of the pathway.
We will begin constructing the connection between Wingate Street and Ken Maunder Park in late March. We expect to complete the work by the end of 2026.
