The Rates Remission and Postponement Policy allows us to reduce property rates in some circumstances not covered by other policies or where we consider it appropriate.
Eligibility and criteria
We may reduce rates on a rating unit because:
- there are special circumstances involving the rating unit or the rates charge that make the assessed unreasonable when compared with similar properties
- the circumstances of the rating unit or ratepayer are similar to those covered by council’s other rates policies but are not covered by any of those policies
- there are exceptional circumstances where we believe it is reasonable to reduce the property rates.
We have final discretion to decide whether to grant a reduction to property rates reduction under the policy.
How to apply
You must apply in writing if you want to apply for a reduction or make a declaration with evidence to support your request.
You need to include:
- detailed information explaining how the property meets the conditions and criteria under this policy
- a daytime phone number so we can contact you if we need more information
- all relevant contractual arrangements.
