How we manage stormwater

Why we manage stormwater
We manage the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff to:
- minimise flooding
- maintain the environmental value of our aquatic habitats
- prevent the pollution of our seas.
Stormwater infrastructure consists of assets including:
- 6000km of pipes
- 45,000 manholes
- 6700 catchment pits
- more than 900 treatment devices.
These are used to manage rainfall runoff from urban areas.
The stormwater bylaw helps protect our waterways by ensuring stormwater systems are of a consistently high standard across Auckland.
For more information, see the Stormwater Bylaw.
