About the dinghy launching facilities for the Ōrākei/Okahu Bay mooring zone

A concept plan for The Landing, at 8-12 Tamaki Drive included a new dinghy ramp at the southern corner of the public pier at Ōrākei Marina.

See, Ōrākei plans, agreements and reports for details.

On behalf of the Ōrākei Local Board, we are investigating the feasibility of installing a dinghy ramp at this location.

For the Ōrākei/Okahu mooring zone and we want to identify:

  • how mooring holders currently access their vessels
  • what problems they encounter
  • whether there is a need for a new dinghy ramp
  • the size of dinghies it needs to accommodate.

Why we are doing this consultation

From 1 June 2019, mooring in Okahu Bay became a prohibited activity under the Auckland Unitary Plan. Many of the moorings have been relocated to the Ōrākei/Okahu mooring zone.

We have received several complaints that users are now finding it more difficult to access their new moorings. This survey is to gauge if there is a need for investment in more facilities.
