Panuku Development Auckland is exploring options for the future of Hobsonville Marina. We want your views on opportunities being considered that include:
- the potential sale of parts of the marina to enable the development of new homes
- improving public access and amenities, including the construction of a waterfront boardwalk
- improving public transport, such as the ferry park and ride
- safeguarding marina uses, such as berth holder parking and the hard stand.
Background information about Hobsonville Marina
Auckland Council owns the land at Hobsonville Marina, which is subject to 10 long-term ground leases to the current marina operator, Hobsonville Marina Limited (HML). Of those 10 leases, eight terminate in 67 years and two are perpetually renewable.
The marina operations include:
- berths for vessels
- hard-stand and haul-out facilities
- berth holder parking
- retail and industrial units.
On behalf of the council, Panuku has discussed future options for the marina with the current lessee (HML).
Discussions are taking place because any change to the terms of the current lease requires agreement from both the lessee (HML) and lessor (Panuku).
Talks have been guided by the Waitakere District Plan and the Auckland Unitary Plan, both of which allow homes to be built on the marina.
As part of this consultation, HML has provided a draft concept plan of the type of development that could take place on Hobsonville Marina. The aim of providing a draft concept plan as part of the public consultation process is to help guide conversations about the future of the marina.
No decision been made yet.
When you can have your say
