The Waiheke Area Plan will present a 30-year vision for Waiheke and the surrounding Hauraki Gulf islands that make up the Waiheke Local Board area.
It will bring together previous studies, plans and existing knowledge of the islands to identify key issues that need to be addressed in the near future. It will also set out key outcomes and actions that are needed to achieve this vision.
We have started preparing the plan, with input from Ngāti Pāoa and other iwi that have expressed an interest. We will also be consulting with mataawaka at Piritahi Marae.
Have your say on the Waiheke Area Plan
We will be releasing the draft plan for public consultation in March 2019.
You will be able to have your say on the plan, and what you would like to see in Waiheke's future.
The plan could cover:
- environmental concerns and water quality
- natural landscapes and biodiversity
- transport and infrastructure
- recreation and community facilities
- the local economy
- housing choice, supply and affordability
There will be a number of other consultations in the coming months that also address the future of Waiheke.
