The consultation closed on 27 August 2018. Thanks for your feedback.
We received more than 200 responses to the plan, via the online form, email, and at an open day at the park.
Most people were positive about the layout of Western Springs Lakeside, and the recreation opportunities the park offers. However, people felt that improvement could still be made to:
- the park's ecological health and water quality (high priority)
- the connectivity of the pathways around the park (medium priority)
- the playground, the signage, and facilities like toilets and drinking fountains (medium priority)
- provision for events in the park (low priority).
We suggested two themes for the playground renewal as a part of the consultation: "Urban Park" or "Ecological Escape".
61 per cent of respondents preferred the "Ecological Escape" option, while 16 per cent preferred the "Urban Park" option. 23 per cent of respondents had no preference.
Water and sediment tests
We will be carrying out some water and sediment tests in Western Springs Lake, in order to come up with a strategy for improving the water quality.
This testing will take place from October 2018 into early 2019.
Local board meetings
The Waitematā Local Board will adopt the revised Western Springs Lakeside Te Wai Ōrea Park Development Plan at a business meeting in early 2019. The final plan will include changes made as a result of your feedback.
