Kepa Bush Reserve
9 Colenso Place, Mission Bay

About Kepa Bush Reserve

Kepa Bush Reserve lies on the slopes of Purewa Creek that flows past Orakei Basin into Hobson Bay.

The 13.6-hectare reserve is a peaceful pocket of native bush day or night. It is dazzling with bird life during the day and serene with glow-worms in the gully near the main entrance at night.

The reserve honours the memory of Te Rangihiwinui Kepa (Major Kemp), who fought for government forces against Te Kooti, Titokowaru and Tamaikowha during the land wars of the 1860s.

Access from the end of Colenso Place, and via walkways between numbers 251 and 255 Kepa Road and 33 and 37 Thatcher Street. You will need to park on the road.

There are a few steps throughout the bush and may not be suitable for prams and wheelchairs. There is some seating along the southern path, and picnic tables in a small clearing at the Kepa Road entrance.
