About the path

A short walk to discover two of North Shore's great beaches.

Start at lesser-known Rothesay Bay, a nice spot for a dip in the ocean away from the crowds. Rothesay Bay Reserve has a great playground with a bridge, slides and a swing covered by a shade sail.

Follow the path north and take in the stunning elevated views over Rangitoto Island and the northern Hauraki Gulf.

Continue along the footpath along Beechwood Road for a short distance, then keep an eye out for the accessway with steps to Browns Bay Beach.

Stroll along Browns Bay Beach, either on the golden sand or the wide promenade on Beachfront Lane. Enjoy a kiwi beach experience picnicking under pōhutukawa trees or explore local cafes and shops.

The nautical-themed Browns Bay beachfront playground features a five-way swing circle, climbing areas and twisting tunnel slide.

Right next door is the fantastic outdoor skatepark, where skateboarders, scooters and BMX riders can test out their skills on the challenge features, right by the beach.

The Rothesay to Browns Bay Path is part of the popular Te Araroa walkway (New Zealand's national hiking trail stretching from Cape Reinga to Bluff).

Public toilets are available at both beaches.
